Introduction

While mobile wireless network has been one of the most successful communications technology for the last few decades, recent growth of smart device supply resulted in an explosive data traffic volume. In order to take advantage of such enormous connectivity, numerous applications are provided for the fourth generation (4G) networks, namely LTE-A. However, since LTE-A now has become mature, researchers throughout the world is now focusing on 5G and future 6G technologies. The key demands for 5G/6G systems mainly discussed recently are:

1) capabilities for supporting massive connectivity and capacity

2) an increasingly miscellaneous kinds of user friendly applications and services in real-life

3) making best use of joint deployments in heterogeneous network

These requirements bring a number of challenges for future wireless networks, including the capability of supporting diverse traffic characteristics, massive connectivity due to enormous number of devices (including MTC, IoT, etc.), and so on. According to these issues, the first International Workshop on 5G and 6G Mobile Communications is held to bring researchers together to share their new solutions to future communication system. The workshop will address a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art in technology and research advances for 5G/6G mobile communications, and will be a venue to brainstorm for identifying the emerging concepts, technologies, and analytical tools for future wireless networks. We also aim to provide the researchers from various backgrounds a forum to share their views on what 5G and 6G communications should be, and to have an open dialogue on the future of wireless research.

Intelligent vehicles based on information and communication technologies are the prospective areas leading the advancement of the convergence technologies for smart cars. The key technologies for the intelligent vehicles are based on communication, environment perception and software technologies. Those technologies are mainly focused on the enhancement of vehicular safety. The workshop focuses on recent developments and standardization of the intelligent vehicles, vehicle-infrastructure cooperation and smart cars.
