ICT for sustainable development

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is the most effective tool for leading the agricultural-industrial societies into the information-knowledge societies while maintaining the development sustainable. “ICT for Development” is thus a right way to implement the United Nations Millennium Goal: To make full use of information and communication technology in developing countries out of poverty, and narrow the gap between the developed countries to achieve sustainable development in the world. The 2009 World Congress on ICT for Development, WCID’09, will be held Sept. 2-4, 2009 in Beijing whose purpose is to deepen the understanding of, share the progress of, exchange experiences in, and explore the better approaches to, the process of ICT for Development, among all participants, particularly among developing countries. Outstanding scientists are invited to give theoretical tutorials, successful practitioners are invited to demonstrate their results and showcases, and regional leaders and leaders of enterprises and communities are invited to present their demand and future planning, skillful engineers are invited to offer short training courses, interesting parties are encouraged to set up mutual agreements, and so on.
