Introduction

Wireless mesh and ad hoc networking has been attracting significant interest from academia, industry, and standard organizations. With several favorable characteristics, such as dynamic self-organization, self-configuration, self-healing, easy maintenance, high scalability and reliable services, wireless mesh networks are a cost-effective approach to support high-speed last mile connectivity and ubiquitous broadband access in the context of home networking, enterprise networking, or community networking. Despite recent advances and technical results from more than a decade of research efforts in mobile ad hoc networks, many research issues at all protocol layers of wireless mesh networks still need to be addressed. For example, the introduction of new wireless spectra such as mmWave, new architecture such as full-duplex wireless, new application domains such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS), have opened up new challenges in the design of physical, MAC, routing and even upper layer protocols. New application scenarios, such as smart and connected communities, are urging researchers to address enhanced QoS support, networking integration and various security issues in the design of different protocol layers for wireless mesh and ad-hoc networks.

This workshop aims to bring together researchers who share interests in the area of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks. The main purpose is to share state-of-the-art research results, promote discussions of research, and share recent research activities in the areas of design of architectures, protocols, algorithms, services, and applications for wireless networks. It also aims to promote the synergy between academic and industry professionals working in this area. We seek papers that address theoretical, experimental, and work in-progress that cover all layers (from the physical layer to the application layer) of wireless mesh and ad hoc networks.
