Technical information is doubling every 2 years, with 50 billion smart objects expected to be connected in 2020. Coupled with the value of connections growing with n² this will drive new business models and efficiencies, commonly dubbed as the Internet of Things. For the future sustainability of our environment – organizational, social and physical – the use of smarter models and infrastructure will be a key enabler. Specifically, the ensuing significant increase in data creation and collection will require new techniques for analysis and sense/respond systems very often going beyond how corporations are structured today.
