Introduction

Although Wireless Power Transfer (WPT) is one of new applications of radio wave, it is very old technology as well. First WPT experiment was carried out in the end of 19th century. Research and Development of Inductive WPT is advanced from 1980s, e.g. for wireless charger for electric toothbrush and shaver, and for IC card Felica. R&D of WPT via microwave also were started in 1960s. The old WPT technologies are based on conventional theory of inductive coupling and radio wave theory. In 2007, a resonance coupling WPT was proposed. After proposal of the resonance coupling, the WPT is presently paid attention as novel application of radio wave and electricity. The resonance coupling WPT is based on the conventional electromagnetic theory, however, it can be explained by novel interpretation of antenna theory, microwave theory, and power electronics theory. In this session, we focus on the novel WPT theory and technologies and discuss future of the WPT.
