Rotor Angle Stability with Different Penetration Levels of Wind Generation in the Sending Grid

This paper analyzed the equivalent impedance with different penetration levels of wind generation in the sending grid. When the wind generators operated only with active power, the equivalent impedance would increase gradually with the higher and higher penetration levels of wind generation in the sending grid. Futhermore, using the IEEE 140 bus test system, the paper calculated the critical clearing time of the tie lines. The results showed that the critical clearing time would become shorter and shorter with the increase of wind generation in the sending grid. That is, the penetration of wind generation in the sending grid woren the rotor angle stability of the system, which verified the theoretical analysis.
