Introduction

The 2008 IEEE International Conference on Nano/Micro Engineered and Molecular Systems (IEEE-NEMS 2008) will be held in Sanya, on Hainan Island, off the southern coast of China, from January 6th to 9th, 2008. The proceedings of IEEE-NEMS will be included in the IEEE Xplore database, and is EI-indexed. This will be the 3rd annual IEEE- NEMS conference, the first two of which were held in Zhuhai, China and in Bangkok, Thailand, and were hugely successful. The proceedings of prior IEEE-NEMS conferences may be found on the IEEE server: IEEE-NEMS 2006: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/tocresult.jsp?isnumber=4084516&isYear=2006 IEEE-NEMS 2007: http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/xpl/tocresult.jsp?isnumber=4144525&isYear=2007 The IEEE-NEMS conferences have been successful in bringing together world-class researchers in several focused sessions on MEMS and nanotechnology, to disseminate their latest research results and allow the cross-disciplinary exchange of knowledge. The strong overlap between MEMS and nanoscale systems continues to grow, and these highly complementary technologies will significantly impact a number of different industries worldwide.
