Introduction

The International Research Center for Animal Environment and Welfare (IRCAEW) regually hosts this biannual symposium to exchange cutting–edge research findings/needs and to further consolidate interdisciplinary research endeavors globally, and consquently to advance the science and technology toward improving animal welfare/health, production efficiency, and environmental stewardship. The 2015 International Symposium on Animal Environment and Welfare (ISAEW2015) is scheduled to be held on October 23-26, 2015 in Rongchang city, Chongqing, China. The symposium will provide an international platform for information exchange and network-building among academia, animal industry, government agencies, and technical consultants or serve providers. The ISAEW2015 is calling for abstracts/papers for the event.

The symposium will focus on the following theme areas (in no particular order): 1. Animal Behavior, Well-being and Health a. Automated measurement/tracking of animal behaviors and/or well-being b. Impact of different production systems and/or management practices c. Impact of sound, lighting, gases, thermal environment and/or their synergistic effects d. Objective and non-invasive assessment of animal well-being and/or health 2. Biosecurity and Disease Control/Management a. Current biosecurity practices in different countries b. Emerging animal diseases c. Managing disease outbreaks d. Environment-friendly disposal of animal mortalities 3. Environmental Control for Modern Animal Production a. Heat and moisture production rates of modern farm animals and housing system b. Heat stress abatement c. Indoor air quality, emissions and abatement techniques d. Innovative ventilation systems to improve in-barn air distribution e. Impact of lighting on animal performance and production efficiency f. Real-time sensors for enhanced environmental control g. Thermal indexes to better assess effective environment 4. Manure Management and Utilization to Reduce Environmental Impact a. Manure nutrient management and impact on soil and groundwater b. Manure treatment/handling technologies, including effluent and solids from biogas digesters c. Utilization of raw manure and biogas digester effluent and solids 5. Production Systems and Equipment a. Alternative production systems and performance b. Dimensions of modern farm animals for improved housing design c. New, innovative housing and husbandry equipment
