Abstract
Based on the broadband second-harmonic laser facility (Kunwu) constructed by the Shanghai Institute of Laser Plasma, a series of experiments pertaining to laser plasma instabilities (LPI) induced by broadband low-coherence lasers have been conducted. In these experiments, the temporal and spatial characteristics of transmission energy, backward scattering signals, and forward transmission signals were measured for targets with varying thicknesses and material compositions. The experimental results demonstrate that, as an innovative driving light source, the broadband laser exhibits distinct advantages in energy coupling, which can be attributed to its effective suppression of backward scattering instabilities, the attenuation of plasma density inhomogeneities arising from reduced coherence, and the modulation of electron heating and plasma expansion dynamics. These findings provide a crucial theoretical and experimental foundation for the applications of inertial confinement fusion (ICF), and also establish a basis for the in-depth investigation of LPI behaviors. Therefore, in conjunction with the experimental efforts, the effective employment of theoretical simulations to characterize broadband lasers is of profound significance for elucidating the intrinsic properties of this novel broadband light source and facilitating its widespread application in related research fields.
